Re: What are you reading?
Just read The Corps: Semper Fi and The Corps: Call to Arms
Great books written by a soldier about marines in world war II, centering around Ken "killer" McCoy. There's a lot of military lingo but most of it is explained at the bottom of the page in short definitions when that type of stuff comes up. Although i understand it all so it doesn't really matter to me.
The great thing about these books is that it centers more on soldiers, day to day military life, romance while home from over seas, and some other interesting stuff.

Just finished reading the highly anticipated newest David Weber's - Mission of Honor
Its book 12 in the Honor Harrington - Sci-Fi Space Opera Series.
What a space opera is, is essentially space sci-fi at a grand scale, combining a whole tapestry or characters from all sides of a conflict.
The Honor Harrington series is pretty much amongst the best space opera out there, the magnitude and scope of the story, the backgrounds behind the weapon technologies and the plots, inventions and tactics that drive the evolution of the story is absolutely breath taking.
Its stunning at the amount of detail that David Weber writes into the machinations of the various star powers that are facing off with each other, the thinkings and posturing of the heads of states behind those powers, the fleets they wield and the technologies that goes behind those fleets.
I also love his description of what I would imagine what realistic fleet engagements would be like in reality. Huge multi-million ton dreadnought fleets screened by smaller vessels in defensive formations, facing each other off at hundreds of millions of kilometers apart, firing multi-stage fusion warhead missiles at each other across distances where the missiles even accelerating to a fraction of light-speed would take 20 or 30 minutes to arrive from the time they where fired.
This latest book is no disappointment, though it has a bit less action then it had in previous volumes.
Regardless the story serves to ramp up the plot to the final confrontation coming soon to the series.

Just finished Jennifer Estep's - Spider's Bite
First book in the elemental assassin series.
The book is not too shabby, a nice start to a series. Fairly imaginative and a welcome break from the traditional paranormal fiction protagonist.
The main character Gin kills people for a living, so there is a clear difference from the begining, a break away from the normal 'goody good' heroes/heroines of para-fic. A welcome relief. Always liked books where the main character was a grey area.

Re: What are you reading?
Just finished J.D. Robb's new novel Fantasy in Death.
Book 37 in the Eve Dallas - In death series.
This is pretty much my favorite mystery series. Combining science-fiction and murder mystery. Consistently good despite the huge long series, with a continuing back story.

Re: What are you reading?
You weren't joking when you said you read a lot of female-based novels Kev, it's like you go to a shop, then chuck every book with a hot chick in a ginormous trolley or something.

Re: What are you reading?
haha, the down side is I spend quite a bit of time reading chick orientated scenes in these books. (though I tend to stay away from truly romance based books, even if they are paranormal or sci-fi based)
Problem is a lot of writers these days, especially in the chick protagonist genre can't seem to write their novels without sex scenes every three chapter.
YEAH YOU HEARD ME!
Kev is complaining about too much sex in novels.

Assuming the author is male though they probably find pleasure in writing stuff like that.

actually in most cases the authors are female, and in general the book is targeted towards horny housewives with nothing better to do with their time, (I usually avoid those types of novels, though some of them are hidden pretty damn well and you don't realize it until it hit you =P)

"Gee, this novel has some pretty original ideas about space!" "I diddn't think aliens could do THAT! Certainly not twice" "Wait, why is the title 'Space Exploration' in inverted commas?"

Re: What are you reading?
Just finished this for the 3rd time...
It is much better than you'd think... I suggest it if you are into murder/mystery novels... 8/10 : -1 cuz, it was written like it was a rushed project. And, another -1 cuz the "digi-novel" thing is AWESOME, but the videos really had no relation to the book.
