Just finished Alex Archer's new book, Paradox.

What are you reading? - Page 3 N321774

Its the 21st novel in the Rogue Angel series.

As usually its a fairly short novel compared to what I usually read, though as usual the series is consistently well done. Even despite the sad fact the series that last longer then 8 or 9 novels eventually go to crap. Alex Archer manages to keep the series lively and uncluttered.

Pretty nice read, can't wait for the next one out sometime this/next month.

Just finished Karen Chance's - Death's Mistress.

What are you reading? - Page 3 N310389

2nd novel in the Dhamphir series.

Pretty generic paranormal fiction really. Saw part of the big plot twist a fair bit before it happened, the story seemed to derail from its rhythm at one point.

Overall no the best work out there.

Once in a long while =P Only if I know the book will be brilliant.

Here are Kev's very loose criteria when it comes to book selection and rating.

1- The protagonist has to be witty and/or devious and/or awesome and/or kicks-arse and/or hot. (the last means the protagonist has to be female)

2- The novel a book in a series, on going or ended. (preferably on going)

3- The series has to be centric (ie, has to focus on the main character for the majority of the novel. I can't stand series/books that keep switching between characters. Especially when there doesn't seem to be a clear sign who is the main character)

4- For me to actually score it above 9/10, the novel has to make me think, not just about the plot, but about the philosophical subject driving the plot.

5- For me to actually score it above 9.5/10, the novel has to be written so brilliantly, that it totters on the knife edge of being a written by a genius, or an author who should be diagnosed as clinically insane. (ie, it stretches your imagination beyond what its normally capable of.)

Yeah, but you have to read them all to know which authors are good and which arn't. Plus there will always be new and upcoming authors.

Mostly I read Sci-Fi, Space Opera, Paranormal, Dark paranormal (some of my favorites are Dark-para) and some high fantasy.

Alright, seriously...read The Carpet Makers.
I. It doesn't really have one main protagonist. The universe itself, if anything, is.
II. It isn't a series, but done correctly and it could've been. I like it better as the one-stop shop though.
III. This book switches between many different people but is interwoven together very well like a....carpet?
IV. This it does in leaps and bounds.
V. I think it does this. The writer is amazing and even got an intro from Orson Scott.

Just read Chloe Neill's - Firespell

What are you reading? - Page 3 N325906

Pretty generic paranormal teen fic, kind of a harry potter rip off, except with a female character. Girl is sent to some rich boarding school by her parents under suspicious circumstances, discovers the school isn't what it seems, finds out she has some hidden powerful abilites. Blah Blah Blah.

Damn dry spell, had nothing to read for ages. God I was desperate to be reading this trash.

Just finished "The Zombie Survival Guide" by Max Brooks.

This book takes a ridiculously funny twist on the zombie apocalyptic mythology by pretending it is a possibly real threat to us and teaching us what to do.

Just finished re-reading Jocelynn Drake's - Nightwalker. The first novel in the Dark Days series.

What are you reading? - Page 3 N254378

It's probably one of my favorite paranormal/vampire series. Unlike many of the other similar books where some normal suberbia retard idiot gets turned into a vampire and discovers some kind of 'power', the protagonist Mira starts the series by being already an 603 year old vampire, who is the only vampire in the world capable of starting fires with her mind. Making her a complete bad-ass right from the start.

It's refreshing to read about a vampire who is already a powerful semi-sociopathic predator.

You must read like my Mom. She can read a 300 to 400 page book and a couple hours. It's ridiculous. If I don't read fairly slow I just miss too much. I like to visualize while I read too.

hehe, actually, I mostly listen to audiobooks these days. Not because I like it better, but I can do other things while listening to audiobooks, photoshop, play mass effect 2, read/browse forums/net, cook/eat, mow lawn... etc etc etc.

But yeah, if I can be reading (or listening), I am. Absolute fiction nut.

Second book in the dark days series. A little less innovative and more messy then the first.

mostly re-read this just to remind myself of the plot for the 3rd book, which I'm reading now.

Fantastic build up, a bit of a soft ending, little bit disappointed, but over all a pretty good read.

The main character the vampire Mira is particularly brutal in this novel, setting a lot of people on fire, sucking out their souls, stabbing people in the chest, lopping off heads, shooting people and generally causing mayhem.

Kev, aybe you should just rate books on a 1-5 scale instead of 1-10 since it doesn't seem like you go below that. Very Happy

that's kind of true actually, I mostly don't finish books below 5, =P

and books too far below 5 I burn.

But then same thing goes that I very very very very rarely rate anything above 9. It has to be spectacularly good to get anything in the 9's.

And its impossible to get a 10 really, it would have to be the very best flawless perfect series of all time.

so maybe a 0.1~4.9 rating system? =P hahaha

hah!

Anyways, I read a couple of books, like Laurel K Hamilton's new book - Flirt and Elizabeth Vaughn's - Whitestar.

Both were sh*t and below 5/10 so I won't bother posting any pics.

Its kind of surprising because I loved Elizabeth Vaughn's first book - Daggerstar.
