Just finished this
Not my usual read, but I found it fairly decent, might check out the rest of the series.

Re: What are you reading?
Just finished Laurel K Hamilton's newest Anita Blake novel.
I miss the old Anita Blake (book 1~5). Before the series turned from Paranormal Murder Mystery/Adventure to Romance/Erotica.
I missed the days when she would just shoot/stab vampires and weres to death. Instead of going about attempting to f@#$ everything to death.

Re: What are you reading?
The series is pretty decent, book two was interesting, though not as good as the first. Maybe it's just me getting bored at more of the same.

Re: What are you reading?
Has anyone actually read the Mass Effect novels before?
Are they worth reading, and do they actually add anything new to the Mass Effect universe that is interesting?

I'm reading Vanity Fair at the moment. I'm pretty much only interested in 'classics,' particularly Russian and English. It amazes me how well people used to write. It's a lost art.

I read both of them, the first one is about Saren and Captian Anderson. It goes into detail about how Saren finds Sovereign. The second book is about the Quarians and Cerberus. Its pretty much a side story and has little to do with the game's stroyline.
P.S. The first one is better IMO.

Re: What are you reading?
hmm, the character plot twist saw from 1000 km away. But the story is still good none the less. Will continue to read the rest of the series.

Haha, the plot as usual is pretty transparent, good read none the less.

Too tired to comment.
Meh, might as well say a few words I guess. As usual with Butcher's work, the plot and it's twists are pretty see through, none the less the actual story itself is entertaining enough.
Also this novel contains a kinky sex scene complete with rope =P. Which is always a plus in any case.

Re: What are you reading?
Really enjoyed this 6th in the series, between the main character's hilarious wisecracks and the plot, have to say its the best novel in the series yet.

Re: What are you reading?
Hah and I thought I treated my character's roughly. It's nothing compared to the endless streak of ill fortune that seems to plague the main character in this series.
It's almost enough to grate on the nerve, it's hard to read what appears to be a tragic tale without a silver lining.
Didn't enjoy reading this one as much, though I'm willing to continue the series in hopes it gets better.

Re: What are you reading?
Man... this series is so depressing...
Not sure if I can continue reading it to be honest, the endless litany of epic fails that happen to the main character just depresses the hell out of me. I mean, I'm not exactly the type of person who has to go for the happy ever after ending, but the lacking of silver lining really cuts into the whole empathy for the protagonist shtick. Mainly because it's just too painful to do so.
It would be like watching Bruce Willis get beat to shit on all the die hard's, except you cut out all the scenes of him kicking ass back until you just get a movie of a guy being shot, stabbed and punched to death.

He pretty much thunder stormed half a page of posts just then.
I don't have a whole lot to write here at the moment, I did re-read The Hobbit for the third time but that was two weeks ago. It's way less complicatedly wrote than Tolkien's other books but is still no less greater. Pretty much agree with what udumbara said a page back about new literature.

Sometimes what makes great literature is not complexity in detail or clever use of language, but the ability for the written word to take our minds and thoughts completely to new places and strike powerful passions or emotions within our hearts.
on a separate note...
just finished
I'm desperate for something else to read, this plot is soooo depressing me.

sure, they sell books on how to do tactical entries, how to subdue and restrain individuals, lethal and non-lethal zones on the human body when it comes to firearms, forensic and police procedures etc.
Doesn't mean the reader will go into the kidnapping/hitman business.

Yeah but thats different...you can use that for self-defense, what can hacking be used for?

Re: What are you reading?
you have to learn exploits to learn how to code. else all your work would be flawed and weak.
It's like police studying criminal psychology to catch suspects.
In actuality, the best software protection experts are ex (and not so ex) hackers.
I know for a fact that some release scene members moonlight writing copy protection for game companies.

Re: What are you reading?
Fairly decent start to a new series, not the best work I've seen, but definitely not the worst.
